Reading The Winners: Seek Out Reading Lists

Since there are 100x more books than we all have time to read, the best way to read is to read those books on highly recommended lists that help in finding the "diamond in the rough"-type books that are on everyone's must-read lists.

With that said, today we will begin a long series of posts that will feature reading lists---or at least links to them. We will highlight the source, give a little background and then link to a few books on the list. Hope you guys enjoy it.

The first list we will feature here is from the American Library Association---specifically the Service to Children division---also known as the ALASC. I think the name of the source says it all. The reputation of the list definitely says a lot about the quality of books you will be getting on the list.

The committee compiles a list of books known as the Notable Children's Books that also includes winners of Newbery, Caldecott,  Belpré, Sibert, Geisel, and Batchelder Award and Honor books (those are names of awards given to the best books of the year---frequently in the form of a medal image imprinted to book covers).
