We Stand In Solidarity With Black Communities

To our entire AYCA Community:

Assalamu-Alaikum. Peace and Blessing to All.

In these trying times facing our nation, the Holy Qur’an reminds us to stand up for justice and bear witness to the truth “even if it is against yourselves, your parents, or your close relatives” (4:135).  Association for Youth and Community Advancement stands in solidarity with our black brothers and sisters here in the US and across the globe in their struggle for equality and justice.

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. also eloquently mentioned, “Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Until we stand firmly against the reality of racism and injustice here and elsewhere, none of us can say that we live in a just and free world. Until our black brothers and sisters can breathe freely, we cannot breathe freely.

The discrimination and racism that led to the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Ahmaud Arbery and countless others is unacceptable. Though AYCA cannot cure this social disease alone, we are committed to listening, learning and doing our part to make our communities a better place through dialogues and actions.

Also, we can all aspire to follow the great example of Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) who powerfully summarized the universal value of equality in succinct words in his last sermon: “All mankind is from Adam and Eve. An Arab has no superiority over a non-Arab nor a non-Arab has any superiority over an Arab; also a white has no superiority over a black nor a black has any superiority over white except by piety and good action.”

With Kindest Regards,

AYCA Board of Directors
